Neo Budapest



Creative Direction for the Night Embassy of Budapest



Challenge





The main challenge of the project was to represent all members and their locations as well as to show all the interested parties in the activities of Neo Budapest. Furthermore, we had to develop the website for the embassy and we also had to define the overall brand identity without any previous design element.



Style Guide




Gradient Lines



The colourful and wavy lines gave the basis of the background which also embody the flowing nightlife.




Photo Collage



Photo cut-outs were used to give a more characteristic appearance and life-like representation for the website.




Neon Vibes



Neon effects were fundamentals for portraying the incandescent and vibrant nightlife.




Systematic Chaos



This particular type of structural invention brought all the elements to life that were included in the design.




Glitch Effect



Glitch is a trending style that makes every 2D component feel like a moving surface.



Overall Brand Identity Through One Website





As part of the project, we had to define the overall visual identity of Neo Budapest. By selecting the elemental colours, typos, and patterns we could define the basis of the brand's style guide. The fundamental styling tools included photo cut-outs, gradient lines, neon and glitch effects within a systematic chaos structure. The dark website design is highlighting the vibrating and colourful elements meanwhile it gives a classy and chic vibe to the overall approach.



Built With Webflow





Webflow is a no-code platform for web designers and developers who would like to extend their possibilities in multiple dimensions. The program enables the creation of responsive designs uniquely while allowing to broaden the traditional surface of the website. In that way, we were able to develop the combination of a horizontal and vertical scrolling website that let to reimagine the user experience of a one-pager web layout.



Night Embassy of Budapest



The Night Embassy of Budapest, is a community of nightlife doers, creators, curators and everyone who believes in a 24h Budapest. The organization is focusing on campaigns, activation, mediation, policy and professional advocacy. The representation of the operators of nightlife and occupants in an uncompromised manner is a must to sustain and make liveable a 24/7 capital. The embassy has more than 100 members, collaborators and stakeholders who we had to display on the website.





Responsive Webdesign





A responsive website reacts to its environment, whether it’s mobile, tablet or desktop, and changes the browsing experience to reflect the size and capabilities of that environment. The biggest challenge of the responsive development was placing more than a hundred elements on a one-pager. Relative sizing and the responsive grid tool gave the opportunity to overcome obstacles. As a result, we developed a unique surface for tablet and mobile by using the same grid structure.



Graphic Design Elements





The 5 style guide attributes determined the characteristics of the graphic design elements of the visual identity. Gradient wave was used as a visual guideline to direct the viewer’s eye movements as well as the colours were picked to symbolize the atmosphere of the pulsing nightlife. Portraits of the members and their brands' logo were placed in circles to visually join the connected elements. On the overall website, we established the identity of the visual approach to unify branding altogether.



Creative Direction



The overall design concept was based on the activities of Neo Budapest and as a representative of the players of the nightlife and hospitality industry, the visual identity had to be chic and progressive at the same time. One of the challenges was finding harmony in the hundreds of elements and identifying synergies between the different visual approaches. We also had to discover the possibilities of Webflow that could give an extraordinary way for the implementation on all devices.



Deliverables



In the first month, we presented three mood boards and selected the fundamentals of the visual style. After that, we started to define each graphic elements, meanwhile we were working on the logo as well. We created several website layouts and we had a few one-on-one consultation sessions to define client's needs. As a result of the 3-month planning process, we handed over all the necessary creative deliverables from the logo to the website that can be used for different purposes.
